After leaving school Neil took up shearing and contract stock handling in conjunction with running the family property "Sherwood" at Keith.
Working livestock on his own instigated the move into obtaining a good working dog.
After Neil had early success in the dog trialing world Neil then did working dog demonstrations in many areas, mainly northern QLD. During this time the Sherwood Kelpies were established as well as dog trading.
It became extremely evident with the selling of dogs and the questions and interest following the demonstrations that there was a huge need for Dog Training Schools. Neil's first school was in 1989.
This lead to just not teaching people about how to train dogs but also understand the working of livestock.
As time has progressed the need and demand to understand and teach the working of livestock has increased dramatically.
